Through Dec. 17, the Latin Club held a coat drive.

The donations were not limited to coats, however.  Students and faculty were also allowed to donate other new or gently used winter clothing such as, hats, gloves, or scarves.  These items were dropped off in room 211.

The donations were collected for and delivered to the WRAL “Coats for Children” campaign.

“The donations benefit underprivileged people who can’t afford [the clothing] to keep warm during the winter,” said Kristin Nelson, sophomore secretary.

The Latin Club wanted to help out families in need during the holiday season and now that winter weather is here.

Trevor Haga, senior co-president, said, “We need to help out all the kids who need [winter] clothes.  It’s cold outside, so it’s an easy thing to do.  [Other people] deserve winter clothes, just like we do.”

In total, the donations amounted to 205 winter clothing items, including 123 coats.

Dr. Mash, Leesville Latin teacher and Latin Club Co-Advisor, said via e-mail, “This was our best year ever with this particular service project.”

The Latin Club is thankful that members of the Leesville community took time to donate to this wonderful cause.
