Since the start of December, the Spanish classes at Leesville have been collecting gifts for their third annual ‘Adopt A Family’ service project.

Students in the Spanish classes were asked to donate money or volunteer to purchase gifts for multiple underprivileged families. “Just like the food drive helps out [less privileged] families during Thanksgiving, Adopt A Family helps less privileged families during Christmas,” Maggie Zargo, Spanish Club President, said.

Some students brought in gift cards for the families while others brought in more unique gifts like a Disney Princess Tea Set. “Adopt A Family is important because we are not only helping other families celebrate the holidays, but we are also helping them meet daily needs,” Zargo continued.

The Spanish Club oversaw the donation process and then held a “Wrapping Party” after school. Students were invited to come and help wrap the presents to prepare them for delivery.

Then, on December 20, the Spanish Club officers met with the families to deliver gifts.

“I cannot describe the immense joy radiating from their faces,” Zargo said. “The contributions from the students of Leesville made them so incredibly happy.”
“It’s a great feeling to know that we made that difference in some one’s holidays.”
