Tuesday April 12 was free cone day at the popular ice cream store Ben and Jerry’s.

Each customer received either a free small cone or a small cup, selecting a flavor from a plethora of options.

“I chose Mango Mango because I was feeling something fruity,” said Jill Schuler, seventh grader and avid ice cream eater.

According to the Ben and Jerry’s website, the free cone day was simply for customer appreciation.

“As a way to thank our customers for their support and to celebrate 33 years of scooping the chunkiest, funkiest ice cream, frozen yogurt and sorbet, Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops are happily giving it away!” proclaimed the colorful website page.

Although the ice cream was free, the event was held as a fund raiser for the SPCA and the Kidney Foundation.

The Ben and Jerry’s employee organizing the line outside of the store had instructions for the multitudinous customers waiting for their free cone.

“Donate $1 and receive 10 percent off of every Ben and Jerry’s purchase until April 12 of next year! Donate $5 and you can jump to the very front of the line!” he yelled so all the customers could hear.

The turnout was good, judging on the long line of people extending to the street from inside of the store.

Hey, who would pass up a good opportunity for free ice cream and helping out a charity?
