Spring Break is coming fast, and students are just itching for its arrival. Here are 15 family friendly activities that appropriate for people of all ages. (Photo Courtesy of PehrBlack Website)

Spring break gives students the opportunity to enjoy the warm weather that hasn’t been seen around here for months Many students are already making plans with friends but what about their families? Hanging with friends is great and all, but nothing beats  having a good time with family (and friends if possible).

 

It is understandable that many teens don’t really see how essential it is to have family time during spring break, being that most live with the their family and just can’t wait to get away from them. However time with loved ones should still be made a priority. Consider these ideas as something you can do with your family.

  1. Keep your mind sharp at Mazes & Brain Games   — Mazes & Brain gives a people a variety of optical illusions, 3D games, and full body games. Tickets are around $5.
  2. Go to Marbles Kids Museum —  Marbles has a new exhibit known as “Seedlings”, where kids have the opportunity to learn where food comes from. While kids entertain themselves with the new exhibit, teens can go see a movie in IMAX. Movies such as Pacific Rim Uprising, Dream Big, and Ready Player One are playing right now. The fee is $7 per person for the Marbles Museum and the IMAX movie is $5.
  3. Explore the Museum of Life and Science — The Museum of Life and Science is pretty cool. It’s definitely a place for family and has tons of hands on activities for kids and teens alike. These activities include things such as a mini-zoo, an indoor butterfly exhibit, a railroad, and an air space building area.Overall, it’s a very interesting museum, I highly recommend it. http://www.lifeandscience.org/
  4. Play foosball in downtown Cary– Downtown Cary’s Downtown park has numerous open and shaded spots where lunch tables and benches are set up. They also have outdoor foosball and ping pong tables.
  5. Attend a Durham Bulls Game — There is nothing like going to a Durham Bulls game during the spring. It has the perfect atmosphere of honest family fun. Not to mention the variety of food and drink is to die for! There are also a variety of great restaurants all alongside the stadium as well, so you won’t be restricted to “baseball food.”
  6. Swimming Anyone?  — Although the summer isn’t quite here, don’t hesitate to go to the go indoor swimming and work on that backstroke! Some place that should be looked into is the Pullen Aquatic Center, and Chavis Pool . Both include an entrance fee of up to $7.
  7. Take a hike or go on a bike ride — Enjoy nature by taking a hike, riding bikes, or camping.There are games that can be played and things that can be done outdoors, free of cost! Try out places like William B. Umstead State Park, Lake Lynn, Shelley Lake, Eno River State Park, and Uwharrie National Forest.
  8. Take a day trip to the beach — Take a trip to the Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach, or even North Carolina’s very own Outer Banks. The trip alone will be like a mini vacay for the entire family.
  9. Do some volunteer work  — Helping one’s community is gratifying and awesome. Family volunteer work is simple and easy to find. Some ideas include volunteering in a soup kitchen, spending time at a animal shelter, volunteering at one’s church, or volunteering at a hospital. Some places to volunteer include Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, and the The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina

These 12 activities can be fun and relaxing for people of all ages. Keep in mind that these specific things don’t have to be done with your family in order for it to be considered “bonding time” The idea of “ Family Time” just means to spend time with your loved ones, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you and your family have to go out and do something.

Being with one’s family should be a reward in itself. These 12 family fun activities are simply something that gives a general idea or suggestion of what is appropriate for the a family and loved ones. There are are so many things out there that can be done that all the options are ridiculously awesome.
