Leesville Road High School’s chorus concert was held on December 12 in the auditorium. Tonya Dickens, chorus director, along with Toney-Paite Phillips and Logan Rose, student conductors, led the choruses in their annual winter concert.

The concert opened with the combined men’s choirs singing “Behold Man”, then proceeded with Beginning Chorus’ pieces: “Niška Banja”, “Neighbors’ Chorus”, “Where Are You Christmas?” from How the Grinch Stole Christmas featuring a solo by Loren Wait, beginning chorus member, and “Here We Come A-Wassailing”.

Intermediate chorus followed with “Vox Populi”, “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite, “Prayer of the Children” and “Wipip!!!”. Next in the program was the all-women’s piece: “Tundra”. It featured Amy Marois as soloist and Toney-Paite Phillips as student conductor.

“My favorite song was ‘Wipip!!!’. For intermediate it was a challenge, but it ended up going really well,” said Emily Dusablln, sophomore and intermediate chorus member.

Capital Pride was the final choir to perform and they sang “Data Est Mihi Omnis Potestas”, “Tykus Tykus”, “The World For Christmas”, “The First Noel” and “Grace Before Sleep”, originally a poem by Sara Teasdale.

The chorus concert closed with “Frozen (Choral Suite)” and the always-moving “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah.

“I think it went really well. Beginning Chorus did really well too for their first concert,” said Dusablln of their performance.
