God’s gifts, our talents: Catholic Schools Live!

Students from Catholic schools across North Carolina spent the past few months preparing for their Catholic Schools Live! performance which took place on Friday, March 27. The performance was comprised of multiple talents including acting, singing and dancing.

Over the past few months, Catholic school students across North Carolina have dedicated hours of their time to rehearse for the Catholic Schools Live!

The performance took place in the Fletcher Theatre of the Duke Energy Center of Performing Arts in Downtown Raleigh on Friday, March 27. Selected students from Catholic schools across the state spent the day rehearsing together and preparing for their big performance.

The Catholic Schools Live! gives students an opportunity to display their acting, singing and dancing skills. Only a select number of students were chosen by their drama or choir teacher to participate and each school was given five minutes to shine.

The performance consists of multiple acts including scenes from Matilda, Dr. Suess’s Seussical the Musical and The Little Mermaid. Among the acting and dancing, many schools chose to display their choir and sang a wide range of songs from Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” to Frozen’s “Let it Go.”

“Just before performing my thoughts were all over the place. I thought about the song, the dance and the people I was performing with,” said Olivia Corbett, a student from The Franciscan School. “I love being on stage and performing for family and friends.”

Students from The Franciscan School put together two scenes from Matilda under the direction and instruction of Michelle Giannini.

Although the Catholic Schools Live! is over, Catholic schools across the state are preparing for or wrapping up their spring musical. Students at The Franciscan School are working hard to perfect their musical for this May: The Little Mermaid.
