The Key Club has hung posters around the school encouraging students to donate to the Food Drive. The Food Drive is supported by Wake Relief, a volunteer organization serving the community since 1975.

The LRHS Key Club is partaking in the Wake Relief Food Drive from March 7 to 24.

The purpose of the food drive is to provide hungry and less fortunate Wake County residents with food and other necessities. All of the food that is collected will be directly donated to the Wake Relief organization.

For the duration of the food drive, students will have the opportunity to donate canned foods to their first period class. The winning class will receive a breakfast surprise, courtesy of the Key Club.

Wake Relief calls upon high schools and clubs, like Leesville’s own Key Club, to collect as much food as possible for distribution.

Key Club members can earn 5 minutes of service hours for each can donated, without any maximum. Students can also earn hours by collecting the food at the end of every week or helping to shelve food at Wake Relief.

Although intriguing, “People shouldn’t care too much about [the surprise breakfast] though, they should donate because it’s a good cause,” said Tushar Varma, sophomore, and Vice President of the Key Club.

All students should be encouraged to donate to the food drive, and give back to the community.

The Key Club can be followed on Twitter at @LeesvilleKeys or their website lrhskeyclub.weebly.com to keep with other upcoming service opportunitites.
