GroupMe App Review

Here at Leesville many students use GroupMe as a great way to keep in touch with their classmates. One class that uses GroupMe is newspaper for reminders, writing ideas, and more.

Inspired by a project conceived at the TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon, GroupMe is now a well known app used by thousands. In 2010, founders Jarad Hecht and Steve Martocci created GroupMe in order to chat with everyone you know.

How GroupMe is different from your average group message is that it is compatible with both IPhone and any other sms messaging devices. This allows for Androids, flip phones, and IPhones to all come together and text as one! “Its easier to communicate with larger groups when not everyone has iphones, which is awesome because everyone is on same page and can be included” said Tyler Mae Stempien, a junior.

Another great feature that GroupMe has is the ability for one to “like” another person’s message in the chat. This is great for deciding on places to eat, what outfit looks better, or just boosting someone’s confidence! The “like” button makes it easier for someone to participate in the conversation while not necessarily talking in it.

While indulging in great conversations and liking away at the funniest texts, emojis are the best way to truly get all of those crazy emotions out. If you are an emoji fan GroupMe is the app for you. Not only is GroupMe emoji compatible, it has its own keyboard dedicated to enlarged emoji-like silly cartoons. The huge selection of emoticons can turn any event into an awesome occasion.

Now, if you are planning a work event or arranging a party, GroupMe has got it covered. The app has a feature that enables one to set a date on the specific chats calendar. By doing this, the app sends out an e-vite to everyone in the group message asking if they are able to attend, making your life that much easier! GroupMe takes away all of the busy work so you can get down to business!

Imagine this party has come to an end and it’s time to go home. Let’s say the car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and you need to send your location in order for your friend to come get you. Once again, GroupMe can handle it. Along with the group’s calendar sharing feature, it also has the ability to share one’s location to the group. Say goodbye to false directions from some weird website and hello to GroupMe locations.

“Lifechanger…. utterly indispensable…. Whether or not you think you need group texting in your life, you won’t know how you lived without it once you give it a shot,” said Gizmodo regarding GroupMe. CNN states that GroupMe is “an essential addition to your app library.

Ditch those regular group chats and join GroupMe for more features than you can imagine and a great way to keep in touch with friends, family, and peers from anywhere, anytime.
