Finding Dory is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the summer. It is the sequel to the 2003 Disney-Pixar film, Finding Nemo.

Finding Nemo was a commercial and box office success, but it did not earn a sequel for more than a decade. The original tells the story of a young fish, Nemo, who is captured and taken to Sydney, Australia. Finding Nemo is considered by many as Disney-Pixar’s first great movie. Ellen DeGeneres, who is the voice of Dory, has been lobbying for a sequel for years. She told People Magazine that she is very excited about the Finding Dory, but also said that, “most of [the people who enjoyed Finding Nemo] are in college. We waited too long!”

But Finding Dory isn’t the only sequel to a movie that we enjoyed as children. Incredibles II is set to be released in 2019, and Cars 3 will be in theaters in summer 2017. The original Incredibles was released in 2004 and has become a classic of the last decade. Producers have been considering a sequel for several years, and it is finally coming into fruition.

Cars got itself a sequel, but there will be an eight year span between the release of the second and third movies.

Interestingly, the people who enjoyed Finding Nemo and The Incredibles are in college or high school now. However, this won’t stop many of them from seeing the sequels to their beloved childhood films.

Maddy Saylors, a sophomore, explained via the significance of Finding Dory. “Finding Nemo was a big movie and a big part of my childhood, so the fact that there’s a new one kind of brings back memories, and I can’t wait to see it!” Saylor’s opinion is a popular one, as many students are looking forward to it.”

Finding Dory will be in theaters on July 17.
