The Pride huddle up at halftime and prepare for the second half. The team managed to net two goals in the second half giving them the edge in the Cap-8.

The stage was set last Monday night as the men’s soccer team faced off against conference rivals, Millbrook. In what was a very exciting game, Leesville’s superior passing and defending led the Pride to a 2-0 victory.

Coming into the match, Millbrook, ranked first in the Cap-8 standings, could have clinched the title with a win, thus dethroning the Pride as Cap-8 Champions. Leesville, on the other hand, trailed the Wildcats in the standings and required two wins over Millbrook and Wakefield to defend their title.

The first half was very even with both teams testing each other’s goalies; however, the half ended tied at 0-0. The stalemate wasn’t broken until the 51st minute when Myson Darden passed it to Gabe Oliveira who was able to place one past Millbrook’s goalie,  Noah Davison.  Leesville sealed the deal when Luca Menozzi, senior, converted on a Penalty Kick in the 73rd minute.

The Wildcats, with a relentless crowd at their backs, never gave up and proved to be very dangerous especially off their long throw in. However, Jamie Boegel, Leesville’s sophomore goalkeeper, had other plans for Millbrook and managed to keep a clean sheet.

The Pride entered senior night the following Wednesday at the top of the table with a one point advantage over Millbrook.  The loonies, who once again filled the stands, were more than entertained  with a 3-0 victory over Wakefield.  Goals came from Grant Nelson, two, and Alex Stewart.

The Pride finished the regular season with an overall record at 16-6-1, first place in the Cap-8 with a record of 12-2-0, and two time Cap-8 Champions. The Pride now awaits the playoff draw which will be announced Thursday, November 3.

Make sure to come out and support the team as they contend for a state championship.
