With no school on the weekends, many Leesville students go out to breakfast with their friends, but the question is where? In the first edition of Food Friday, the choice between IHop or Waffle House will be explored.

IHOP, the acronym standing for International House of Pancakes, was founded in 1958 by brothers Al and Jerry Lapin, along with two investors. The first location opened in sunny California, and IHOP has been dishing out yummy breakfast dishes since. Some of the most popular orders at the breakfast joint include the Stuffed French Toast, Omelets, and of course –Pancakes. A fun fact is that the highest-calorie dish has 1,760 calories; the Country Fried Steak combo with Pancakes.

On the other hand, Waffle House was founded in 1955 by longtime friends Joe Rogers, Sr., and Tom Forkner. The first location opened in a suburb of Georgia and has been crafting delicious waffles and breakfast items since. The most popular dish at the restaurant is naturally…waffles, but the menu also boasts hashbrowns cooked with eight different topping choices. A fun fact about Waffle House is the highest-calorie dish is the All Star Breakfast which has 945 calories: a Waffle, two Eggs, choice of Bacon, Sausage or Ham , Toast, and Grits or Hashbrowns.

LRHS students have very strong opinions on the debate of which breakfast place is better. Jaeden Flagg, a LRHS Sophomore and Team IHOP supporter, said, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so don’t spoil it by going to Waffle House.” Another Team IHOP supporter, Richard Foxworth, a LRHS Sophomore, brought up a new point saying, “Waffle House is good, but IHOP has Waffles and Pancakes which sets it apart.” Caela Steele, a LRHS Junior, said, “IHOP has fresher ingredients which I appreciate.”

While Team Waffle House supporter Cade Haas, a LRHS Sophomore, only goes to Waffle House. When asked why people should go to Waffle House, Haas said, “I would say that once you go to Waffle House, you’ll never go to another place.” When asked why Waffle House is better, Cade said, “They have high quality Maple Syrup and top notch waffles”.
