Alex Hunter, senior and star point guard on the Pride men’s basketball team, has been selected to participate in the North Carolina East-West All-Star game. The nomination adds to a series of accomplishments for Hunter that include committing to Furman University, becoming the leading scorer in Pride basketball history, and leading the team to a state championship appearance.

Russ Frazier, head coach, nominated Hunter for the All-Star game. “Alex has worked hard and had a tremendous career here at Leesville. I’m happy that he gets the opportunity to represent our school and community one more time in a high school setting,” said Frazier.

For Hunter, it’s special to have the opportunity to partake in this exclusive game. “It’s an honor to be selected for it and I know there will be a lot of great players in it so it’ll definitely be a cool experience,” said Hunter.

This is the second year in a row that Leesville has had a basketball player make an appearance in the All-Star game. Last season, Ben Zemonek, a forward for Lenoir-Rhyne University, earned a starting position in the game and finished with 14 points in an East win over the West.

Hunter and the other participants in the all-star game will arrive in Greensboro two days before the game and will spend time practicing, scrimmaging, and getting to know one another.

The game will take place on Monday, July 17 at Greensboro Coliseum. The women’s game will be held at 6:30 and the men’s game at 8:30.
