Matthew Eisley, editor for the N&O, wrote a piece about Leesville’s recent accident. The part that irked me most follows:  ”Much will be made, rightly, of the immaturity of the Leesville teens involved in the latest incident. They should not have tried to pull off the juvenile prank of parking a sailboat against the school’s cafeteria doors.
Many of us remember staging stupid stunts as kids. The only difference, some say, is that they didn’t get arrested. Or killed.   It’s hardly news that teens are prone to taking foolish risks.”

I am a rising senior at Leesville Road High. Matthew Eisley mischaracterizes my generation as “prone to taking foolish risks.” Is that not the characteristic of every teenage generation? Alzheimer’s Book Finished and Delivered.

Carlie Bowman’s first and fourth period classes have finished their charity project, the small nonfiction book for the Alzheimer’s Association, entitled Pleasant Pastimes. The book’s publication found payment in several social workers involved with the association, and the first two-dozen copies arrived for the students to admire their hard work.

North Carolina Legislature Considers Options Beyond Abstinence-Only

The North Carolina Senate still has yet to pass the Healthy Youth Act, which was passed by the North Carolina House of Representatives in May by a margin of 62-52. The bill addresses parental consent regarding sex education for seventh, eighth and ninth graders.

Teachers/Students Deal With Increased Cheating In Schools

Various surveys and studies over the past several years have documented the rise of cheating among high school students. Donald McCabe, a professor of management and global business at Rutgers University in New Jersey, has been researching cheating practices among college students for roughly eighteen years, and high school students for roughly six. McCabe claims to have surveyed 24,000 high school students, grades 9 to 12.

Wikipedia Surfing– A Dangerous Game

Any student can find themselves “Wikipedia surfing.” It can start with a Google search for “The War of 1812,” and eventually end on the “Spongebob Squarepants” Wikipedia page. Thousands have accidentally stumbled upon this path of procrastination, but some students have found a way to harness the phenomenon to produce “The Wikipedia Game.”

On Monday, April 20, the Lady Pride soccer team tied the Broughton Capitals 1-1-the second tie of the season for the Pride. Although the girls were disappointed, ending the forty minutes tied with their Cap-7 rival, Michelle Jewell, the senior captain, applauded her team’s efforts in the second half.
