The Leesville Road High School men’s golf team finished runner up at the 2010 North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4-A state championship at Pinehurst No. 8.
The team finished eight strokes behind Green Hope High School. Grayson Murray, a sophomore, finished first place overall, shooting a two day six under overall. Murray shot the only sub 70 score in the field.
Green Hope finished with a total overall score of 591, while Leesville finished with a score of 599.
“I played terrible,” said Michael deMontbrun, a junior. “I think I played the worst out there. But the season went great for us.”
The team ended with one of the most successful seasons ever in Leesville golf history. The team topped Broughton High School in the Cap 7 to capture the conference championship and end Broughton’s fifteen year winning streak.
