On October 8, twenty minutes before the Pride Varsity football team took on Wakefield, Morgan Papanestor was crowned Homecoming Queen.

“My first thought was ‘No way, they’re wrong. They did not just say my name’,” said Papanestor.

Leesville students had spent the Wednesday prior, October 6, submitting their votes during all three lunches. Each student who voted chose from the list of females representing a different club or group. Papanestor represented the International Thespian Society.

“All senior girls for ITS are nominated,” Karley St. Pierre, ITS President, explained. “[Papanestor] and I tied, but she beat me in the run off.”

Before Homecoming Queen, the Maid of Honor is announced. This year, the Maid of Honor was Kaitlin Murray.

Papanestor, who was escorted by her father, accepted the crown from previous Homecoming Queen, Hope Hering.

“I was shocked,” Papanestor said, smiling. “I had no idea that I was liked  [this much].”

With a bouquet of roses in hand, a shining crown, and a screaming crowd, Papanestor’s win will be a day that she, and everyone else, will never forget.
