Through seven matches, the team has seven first place finishes. Michael deMontbrun, a senior, believes that Leesville can carry this momentum throughout the rest of the season. “We are capable of winnings states because we have a very solid team. All of us can shoot really low.”
Last year, the team finished in second place at states behind Green Hope High School. Larry Han, a junior, thinks that the “revenge factor” will carry Leesville higher this year. “We hadn’t lost one match to Green Hope until states last year, so we really want to beat them and beat all the teams.”
John Noble, a junior, is a new addition to the team this year. Coming into year, Noble already noticed the team chemistry surrounding the players. “What I like is that everybody gets along pretty good.”
Noble has the same mindset as the rest of his teammates. “I want to see if we finish undefeated. I just want to try to do good at states and focus on the team, and if we win it would be pretty cool.”
Along with the team achievements, each golfer has his own set of individual goals.
“I want to medal at least once in a match,” said deMontbrun, “and I want to make all conference again.”
Han hopes that his skills can add to the team. “Individually, my own goal is to keep on improving so I can be a big contributing factor.”
The team has five more remaining golf matches this season followed by the regional and state invitationals in early May.
I think math competitions are amazing.
