Senior break breaks boredom

Exam week is a great week to be a senior. With Leesville’s senior exemption policy, the oldest kids, who stayed on top of their work, get rewarded with almost a week and a half off to do with as they like.

“It is just perfect timing,” said Rebecca Hawthorne, exempt senior. “All first semester we stress about college applications and grades.”

If they do not have to take any exams, seniors get a break that is just as long as Winter Break. Some students are using this as an opportunity to go on vacation as well, seeing as the huge crowds from the holiday times has disintegrated.

Zipporah Foster, senior, said, “I have a volleyball tournament over break. It all just worked out perfectly. I am happy I have something to do over break other than just sitting around.”

In addition, this break allows for seniors to work a lot more hours.

Hawthorne said, “I have to talk to my manager, but I hope to get a lot of money. It is a great opportunity to get tons of hours.”

Students, and many teachers, agree that allowing for senior exemptions is a powerful policy at Leesville. It is practically the only motivator making some of these seniors go to school every day.

Considering how hard seniors have worked over their high school careers, they certainly deserve this break.
