Leesville’s art department has conquered their challenge. Jason’s Deli in Brier Creek asked Leesville art students to paint a mural to display their core value– community.
On Tuesday, February 5, the unveiling of the mural showed exactly what “community” means to this area.
Over 100 students, faculty and administrators came out to Jason’s Deli to see the mural. Jason’s Deli held a fundraiser and 10% of the proceeds went to the Leesville art department.
Jason’s Deli representatives visited Leesville’s campus early in October and saw the senior wall. Impressed with the painting, they approached Mr. Espinal and asked if he could choose a couple of artists to develop a mural for their business.
Alicia Smith, Grace McLeod, Erin McCauley, Rachel Radulovich, Sara McCauley, Autumn Robertson, Alex Caina and Gabe Romero were chosen to help with the mural.
The eight artists, along with help from Mr. Espinal, painted the massive 8×16 mural. It took them about three months from mere sketches to their beautiful mural.
“Overall the mural project was a learning experience. Despite the countless hours spent on it, it taught me determination. I never thought I could ever do something of that size and magnitude and I am really proud to have worked on it with other artists like myself,” said Gabe Romero.
The mural is protected behind glass on the outside of Jason’s Deli. Each artist that contributed to the mural is pictured individually to be recognized for their amazing work.
