Predictions

Best Picture: Gravity/12 Years a Slave/American Hustle

Best Actor: Matthew McConaughey  (Dallas Buyer’s Club)

Best Actress: Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine)

The grand poobah award of the Oscars, Best Picture always captures the most audience attention. This year, the considered frontrunners are 12 Years of Slave, American Hustle and Gravity. According to LA Times, American Hustle has a 2-1 chance, 12 Years of Slave has a 4-1 chance, while Gravity lags behind with a 9-2 chance.

The two other awards most anticipated are Best Actor and Actress. Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyer’s Club) and Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) both have LA Times’ favor with a 2-1 chance.

 

Ellen to host

Ellen Degeneres will be hosting the Oscars, returning for her chance to entertain audiences for the second time since 2007.

According to the Oscars blog, “Ellen is talented, wonderfully spontaneous, and knows how to entertain a worldwide audience,” said Dawn Hudson, Academy CEO. “She’s a big fan of the Oscars; we’re huge fans of hers. It’s a perfect match.”

 

Wizard of Oz is to be celebrated

2014 is the 75th Anniversary of the release of Wizard of Oz. The Oscars plan to pay tribute to the classic, which was nominated for six Oscars in 1939.

Pharrell Williams will also be performing his song, “Happy”, which was written and produced for the film Despicable Me 2. The song is nominated for Best Original Song.
