5 Seconds of Summer, or commonly known as 5sos, played at Walnut Creek Amphitheater on Thursday, September 10. There are only two more shows left of the world tour, called “Rock Out With Your Socks Out,” following the Raleigh concert. This is 5sos’s first headlining tour.
Previously, 5sos was the supporting act for Hot Chelle Rae and three One Direction world tours where they gained their popularity. Their debut self-titled album was released in June 2014 through Capitol Records. 5 Seconds of Summer debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Chart.
Haley Hawkins, a junior at Leesville, had purchased her 5sos concert tickets at Walnut Creek over a year in advance. “I loved how everyone was singing along and jumping and they gave us an encore… I’ve loved 5sos for about two years now,” said Hawkins.
5sos is referred to as a boy band, but the band members disagree. Unlike some other boy bands, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, and Ashton Irwin write their own music, play their own instruments, and don’t follow choreographed dance routines.
The “Rock Out With Your Socks Out” setlist includes a variety of old and new 5sos songs along with a Green Day cover of “American Idiot” and The Romantics cover of “What I like About You.”
“[Their music] seems pop on the radio but in person it sounds like rock,” said Hawkins The concert attendees did see some rain during the concert. While some people on the lawn chose to leave, others stayed as 5sos had a fairly short delay before they came on stage.
Although ‘boy bands’ or a band of boys in 5sos’s case, come and go, they leave teenage girls fangirling for quite some time.
