With its latest update, Snapchat continues to prove why they are one of the best social media apps.
Snapchat will now allow its users to create custom geofilters. Geofilters are the graphics that people can add to the bottom of their photos. They are normally artistic designs that are specific to a location or a special event. Now, any occasion can have its very own geofilter. Have a birthday party coming up? Create a geofilter for the kids to post pictures. Big high school football game? Spectators can post cool and unique photos and videos of their football game experience with a neat graphic overlaying it. The opportunities are endless.
If a user wants to create their own filter, all you have to do is visit their online filter design lab. Once you’ve uploaded/ created your image, you can define the geographical area that you want this graphic to be available in. These On-Demand Filters also generated revenue for graphic design businesses like MyPartyGeofilter that you can hire to create professional images for you. On Snapchat’s site, the base price of a custom filter starts around $5, but can cost you more depending the complexity of the graphic, where you want it to be available, and for how long.
Customizable filters will be a great way for Snapchat to make money, alongside advertising for businesses like BuzzFeed and ESPN with their Discover feed.
The Snapchat update is currently available to Apple and will be available for Android products in the near future.
