Gymnastics involves the use of physical strength, flexibility, balance, control, power and agility. In fact, it dates all the way back to 1896 when it was first introduced to the Olympics.
Now, high schools all over the country participate in gymnastic competitions, including Leesville Road High School.
Varsity gymnastics has several requirements before gymnasts are able to complete at the high school level. These requirements range from a kip (a swing on bars), to a back handspring on a beam.
Meghan Ford, a junior, is trying out for the Leesville gymnastics team for the first time. She has already done gymnastics recreationally for four years at Gymcarolina and is ready excited for tryouts. “I want to be a part of the gymnastics team because I think it would be a fun experience. I also want to meet people who enjoy gymnastics just as much as I do,” said Ford.
Waverly Kennedy, a sophomore, is also looking forward to this season. This year will be Kennedy’s second year on the team, and she is looking forward to bonding with her team mates. Her goal for the season is “to place well and to have fun,” as well as getting to know new teammates.
Team Captains this year are Gabby O’Brien and Gabby Kistner, both seniors. Tryouts are at Superior F, 220 Dominion Dr, Morrisville, NC 27560 on November 2.
