The Leesville Men’s soccer team has had a great start to the season going 3-1-1 in their first five games. The team wants to continue their success into the conference season.

After three convincing wins and an impressive 0-0 tie to the No.1 state ranked team Green Hope, the Pride are feeling confident.

“We’ve had a lot better start to the season than last year,” said Ben Noga, senior. With one loss to Apex Friendship holding the team back from perfection, it’s going to be a good season of soccer for Leesville.

Even with a great start to the season, there is always room for improvement, and with tougher opponents ahead, the team is going to need to keep a consistent high level of play. “I feel like we could play faster on the ball, and score more goals,” said Jamie Boegel.

So far, the team has meshed well, and that is important for a good soccer team. “We’ve shared some laughs at the training sessions,” said Alex Stewart, “…so [team chemistry] isn’t a problem.”

Players on the team this year are also looking forward to some of their CAP-7 opponents. “Definitely [Cardinal] Gibbons, they beat us last year and they won states; we’re looking for revenge,” said Tyler Dickenson, junior.

The Pride is also looking to improve upon their conference record of 6-5-1 last year and win their third CAP-7 title in four years. But their ambition doesn’t stop there.

“I want to win a state championship, I want a ring,” said Boegel.

No matter the outcome of this season Paul Dinkenor, head coach, wants the teams’ best effort. “[My goal] is for the seniors to get to the end of the season and say ‘I really enjoyed that’ or ‘we gave all we could,” said Dinkenor.
