The Great Leesville Read: Young adult fiction

Dear reader,

We have discovered America’s favorite book through The Great American Read on PBS, but what is Leesville Road High School’s favorite book?

After watching an episode of the show, that question captivated me. I have always loved reading, and I enjoy exploring the reasons we value books. For this video, I focused on young adult fiction and asked the question, “What young adult books are valuable to members of the Leesville community?” I approached two Leesville students and one teacher, all frequent readers, to learn about their favorite young adult novels.

The results: Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, and Autoboyography by Christina Lauren.

In the video, after Leesville’s Media Center Specialist discusses young adult fiction in general, the three participants explain what they learned from their favorite young adult books and read meaningful excerpts. I hope that these testimonies to the value of young adult fiction inspire you to pick up a novel and read.

Enjoy the video!
