Leesville Road High School hosts chapters of various different National Honor Societies. The newest honor society that has been introduced to Leesville is Rho Kappa–the national honor society for Social Studies.
Rho Kappa was proposed by Taylor Hawkins and Andrew Carboni, Seniors.
“Andrew Carboni and I got the idea after talking about how many Social Studies electives he has taken and how we don’t have a social studies honor society when we have so many electives you could take,” said Hawkins via text.
The advisor of the school’s chapter of Rho Kappa is Ms. Ballew–a social studies teacher–who teaches American History 1 and AP Macroeconomics. “We linked up with three other interested students from Ms. Ballew, and we started to form the club last year and over the summer,” said Hawkins via text.
The students who proposed the society get first dibs on officer positions, so there will not be any elections for Rho Kappa this year: Taylor Hawkins–President, Andrew Carboni–Vice President, Owen Marcelino–Treasurer, Amelia Garrelts–Secretary, and Caroline Camp–Social Media Chair.
The interest meeting for Rho Kappa will be on Thursday, September 24, at 11:15 AM via Google Meet. Students who are interested can attend the meeting with the code “LRHSRhoKappa,” and follow the society on Instagram for more updates @LeesvilleRhoKappa, and on Twitter @RhoKappa_LRHS.
The meeting will provide students with the applications and requirements to be a part of the honor society. Like any of the other honor societies, Seniors who become members will be given an honor cord to wear at the graduation ceremony.
If one has any more questions about Rho Kappa, they can email Ms. Ballew–jballew@wcpss.net.
