Sometimes, the more options of clothing we have, the more complicated and confusing it can be to put together the perfect outfit. One trick that many fashion pros swear by is building a capsule wardrobe, which consists of investing in fashion essentials that have various ways of styling– creating multiple outfits.

Rather than hopping on the latest trend, a capsule wardrobe involves the most essential pieces of clothing. It entails creating a style that is minimalistic: A small collection of clothing, jewelry, and accessories that encourages you to wear your favorite things every day.

Fast fashion and our consumerist culture have tricked us into believing that we must own everything that appears to be in style. The result is a stuffed closet full of clothes that we may never wear or only wear once.

Capsule wardrobes push us to think more about what clothing we actually use.

While not for everyone, a capsule wardrobe is perfect for those who live sustainably, efficiently, and comfortably. Creating a capsule wardrobe is a great idea if you’re interested in minimizing your wardrobe and embracing slow fashion since it encourages you to stick to a few staples rather than buying into tons of fad trends.

Your capsule wardrobe should have between 25 and 50 pieces, which includes clothing, shoes, and accessories. It all depends on the size of your current closet and how much you want to challenge yourself.

If you enjoy playing around with many different silhouettes and styles on a regular basis, you may feel there’s not enough variety in this method of decluttering. Yet, having a capsule wardrobe of timeless, classic pieces would be a strong base that you could later spice up with trends, colors, prints, and patterns for each season.

When choosing an outfit, a capsule wardrobe will save you time and money plus reduce your decision fatigue and stress. It is a great option for those who want to have an easy, minimalist style. If you buy less, wear more, and find high-quality, you will successfully have a capsule wardrobe.
