Wellness Wednesday

In the current stage of Covid-19, outings and social gatherings are becoming normalized again. After many months locked inside, with fear of the virus spreading, humanity felt its impact. “Normal” had a new definition, one that we had never experienced before. Eating out at a restaurant was replaced with curbside pick-up, seeing people’s smiles was replaced by face masks, and school was replaced with Zoom video calls.

As a whole, humanity adapted well, but it greatly affected the mental health of people. Therefore, many fitness instructors from all around the Triangle area came together to organize “Wellness Wednesday.” The outdoor exercise classes are for people of all ages and physical abilities. These workouts occur at varying locations, most commonly the Coastal Credit Union, allowing a lot of room to social distance. The purpose of the event is to provide a safe way for people to get out of the house and focus on themselves.

It is extremely beneficial to promote people improving both their fitness and mental health. When I attended a class, Fit RDU, the exercises focused on High Intensity Interval Training and stamina. It was a very strenuous class, but they did offer modifications to many of the movements, making it achievable for everyone who attended. The only requirements for this event: bring a mask, stay six feet apart, and be ready to sweat. Wellness Wednesday is an ongoing event that occurs every Wednesday, it started on March 31, 2021, and runs through June 30, 2021. For the price of $5, anyone wanting to participate will meet in person at the designated locations found at https://visitnorthhills.com/events/wellness-wednesdays/.
