There are a lot of quality ‘90s bands that some of our parents grew up listening to. My parents gave me their top 3 favorite bands that they used to listen to last century. I added my favorite 90 band which is New Edition.
TLC
TLC is an American women’s group that originally started with Liza Lopes (Left eye), Tionne Watkins (T-boz), and Crystal Jones. They had then replaced Crystal Jones with Rozonda Thomas (Chilli) after she failed to sign contracts. TLC was formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in the 1990s.
TLC’s top 3 biggest selling are “No Scrubs,” “Waterfalls,” and “Unpretty.” My top 3 favorite TLC songs are “No scrubs,” “Crooked smile,” and “Waterfalls.” On July 3rd, 1995, TLC broke up because the 3 ladies claimed they were not paid fairly and production costs could not pair their bills.
What I like about the band are their unique and creative names. I also like the music style because they are R&B, hip hop, and soul. I enjoy listening to genres like that because I like the message behind it– that a female shouldn’t be dating a scrub like a guy.
Bell Biv Devoe (BBD)
BBD is a male-American group who started with Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe. This trio originally started in another band called New Edition. BBD formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1998.
BBD’s top 3 best selling singles are “Poison”, “When will I See you Smile Again?”, and “Do me!”. I don’t have a top 3 because I only like one song which is Poison. The group today is still together and is going on tours. I like how they are a R&B type of group, but I can only enjoy one song which is “Poison.” I just can’t get into their other songs. I like “Poison” because of the beat, and it talks about this girl being untrustworthy.
Dru Hill
Dru hill is a male-American group who started with Mark Andrews (Sisqo), Tamir Ruffin (Nokio), Larry Anthony (Jazz), and James Green (Woody). Dru hill was formed in Baltimore in 1992.
Dru hill’s top 3 biggest sellings are “How deep is your love”, “Beauty”, and “These are the Times.” I don’t have a top 3 or a favorite song from them because I don’t really like any of their songs. Dru hill is still active till this day. All their songs are ok but I just don’t really like their music, but I like their genre is R&B, hip hop, and new jack swing. I don’t like Dru hill because their music is too slow for me.
Wu-Tang Clan
Wu-Tang Clan is male-American group that started with Robert Fitzgerald Diggs (RZA), Gary Eldridge Grice (GZA), Russell Tyrone Jones (Ol’Dirty Bastard), Clifford Smith Jr. (Method Man), Corey Woods (Raekwon), Dennis Coles (Ghostface Killah), Jason Richard Hunter (Inspectah Deck), Lamont Jody Hawkins (U-God), and Jamel Irief (Masta Killa). Later Darryl Hill (Cappadonna) had become an official member of the group.
Wu-Tang Clan was formed in New York in 1992. Wu-Tang Clan’s top 3 biggest hits are “Da Mystery of Chessboxin:, “Triumph”, and “C.R.E.A.M”. My favorite top 3 Wu-Tang Clan songs are C.R.E.A.M, Wu-Tang Clan ain’t nuthing ta F’ Wit, and Method Man. The Wu-Tang clan didn’t split, but the members all went solo with their careers.
I like that they are hip-hop and hard core hip-hop, but I don’t really care to listen to east coast hip-hop. I like their style of music because of the beat and it makes me feel like I’m in California riding in a lowrider.
Bone – Thug – N – Harmony
Bone Thugs-n-Harmony also known as B.O.N.E Enterprise is male-American band group who started with Bryon Anthony McCane II (Bizzy Bone), Charles C. Scruggs (Wish bone), Steven Howse (Layzie Bone), Anthony Henderson (Krayzie Bone), and Stanley Howse (Flesh-n-Bone). Bone- Thug -N- Harmony was formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1991.
Bone Thugs-n-harmony’s top 3 biggest hits are “Tha crossroads”, “Thuggish Ruggish Bone”, and “Foe Tha Love $”. My favorite top 3 Bone thug n harmony are “1st of the Month”, “Thuggish Ruggish Bone”, and “Foe Tha Love $”.
Kayzie Bone and WishBone both left the group to work independently due to conflicts with the group in April 2011. Then they later returned and re-unified the group. They are a hip-hop and R&B type of group which is the type of genre I enjoy. I don’t really listen to gangsta rap which is the type of genre they are known for.
EPMD
EPMD is an acronym for “Erick and Parrish Making Dollars”. It started with Erick Sermon which stands for the E and Parrish Smith which stands for the PMD. EPMD started in Brentwood New York in 1986.
EPMD’s top 3 biggest hits are “It’s My Thing”, “You Gots to Chill”, and “Strictly Business”. I only have 2 favorite songs from this group which are “Crossover” ,“So Wat Cha Sayin”. EPMD broke up months after they released their single “headbanger” in October 1992.
The reason I don’t really like their band is because their genre is Long island and New york and I don’t listen to those genres– they are also hip hop which I do enjoy. I like “Crossover” and “So Wat Cha Sayin” because of their beats.
New Edition
New Edition is a male-American group who started with Ricardo Bell (Ricky Bell), Michael Bivins, Robert Barisford Brown ( Bobby Brown), Ronald Boyd DeVoe Jr. (Ronnie DeVoe), and Ralph Edward Tresvant (Ralph Tresvant). They then later added Johnny Gill Jr. (Gill). They formed in Boston Massachusetts in 1978.
New Edition’s top 3 biggest hits are “Mr.Telephone Man”, “If it isn’t love”, and “Maryann”. My top 3 favorite songs are “Mr.Telephone man”, “Can you stand the rain”, and “Candy Girl”. The group voted Bobby Brown out due to his behavior in December 1985 as they were under pressure from MCA and their management. Bell, DeVoe and Bivins started a trio band named Bell Biv DeVoe.
New Edition is my favorite 90’s band because their genre is R&B, pop, and New jack swing. I also enjoy listening to them because I watched their movie and I enjoyed watching it which made me listen to them more.
I like “Mr.Telephone man” because of the flow and like how it is talking about calling this girl but she doesn’t answer the phone, so he thinks it is the phone line because he knows his “baby” wouldn’t hang up on him.
