After already performing a few of his 69 upcoming shows, Wallen is experiencing a ton of backlash after abandoning his fans at his most recent show. His reasoning being that he lost his voice which is very common for artists as active as him.
Although all 60,000 disappointed fans are getting a full refund, it does not make up for the amount of money they had spent on this event. Outfits, traveling, and hotels are not cheap, especially nowadays. The refund also does not make up for the multiple hours spent in the stadium that took an emotional toll on many.
A Twitter commenter said, “Hey Morgan Wallen, Taylor Swift never cancels. Be Better,” after the Pop artist performed for three nights in a row during her “Eras Tour.”
“I think that the fans should cut him some slack because he needed to go on vocal rest. Although I can understand why they were upset, we would not want to hear him sing badly,” said Alexa Sarmiere, senior.
Unfortunately, The “Days That End in Why” singer is pretty familiar with controversy. It wouldn’t be the first time he has let down his fandom causing many to refrain from continuing to support him.
Hardy, Ernest and Nate Smith were the three opening acts that showed up and performed during this chaos.
What some fans are most frustrated about is the fact that Wallen knew well in advance that he was not feeling up to it and let more than 60,000 people buy merchandise, food, and drinks. Not only was it a waste of time, but money as well.
Wallen decided to take it on social media to explain himself and wrote, “I spent the day resting up, talking to my doctor and working through my vocal exercises trying to get better. I really thought I’d be able to take the stage and it kills me to deliver this so close to showtime but my voice is shot and I am unable to sing. I am so sorry, I promise you guys I tried everything I could.”
An alleged Ole Miss security guard claimed in a viral video that Wallen was too drunk to walk, let alone perform. The guard even said that he had to be escorted by an ambulance to get his stomach pumped.
“I believe that he probably did lose his voice but also partied too hard and had to cancel for that reason as well,” said Sophia Addonizio, senior.
There is no physical evidence that this was the cause of the cancellation, so it could easily just be gossip. Wallen proceeds to cancel three more live dates because he has still not recovered from the issues he experienced on Sunday night.
It is safe to say that no one is perfect, especially famous people who are constantly being critiqued by their every move, but this scandal has definitely given Wallen a bad rep.
