Leesville Road High School’s wrestling team is looking forward to another successful season.
After going undefeated in duel meets last season, returning wrestlers are hoping to take this season to the next level.
JJ Dehner, senior, has wrestled at Leesville for four years. When asked about why he is on the wrestling team, Dehner said, “I like the [wrestling] process and being a part of the team. I like just working [in] the mat room and getting better.”
Carter Laba, junior, has been wrestling at Leesville for three years. His favorite part of the team is “the team, just itself, and the coaches,” said Laba. He says his favorite part of practice is “just suffering with everybody.”
Both Dehner and Laba have high expectations for the team going into the season. Dehner said, “We are going to have a good season. We lost a lot of good guys but I think we have some good guys coming in and there are a lot of good guys still on the team.”
Laba also thinks that the team will do well this season. When asked about his thoughts going into the season, Laba said, “For the team, I hope we go positive.” For himself, Laba said, “I [hope to] place at states.”
With hopes and expectations high, the upcoming wrestling season at Leesville Road High School will surely be a season to watch.
