LRHS Theatre starts rehearsal for “Mean Girls,” the spring musical

The musical Mean Girls is based on the motion picture Mean Girls, written by Tina Fey and first released in 2004. The musical slightly adapts the story in order to deliver it through song and make it more appropriate for younger audiences.

With the fall play completed, it’s time for the most exciting time of the year for Leesville’s talented theater students: spring musical rehearsal!

This year, the theater program will be assembling a musical production of Mean Girls. Based on the movie written by Tina Fey, the musical follows previously homeschooled Cady Heron as she navigates the complicated social hierarchy of high school.

Emily Gagan, junior, is playing Cady Heron, the lead role in the musical.

“I’m super excited for all the numbers and dances,” said Gagan. “It’s a full-circle moment for me because [Mean Girls] was the first Broadway show I saw, so now that I’m acting in it, it’s going to be very fun.”

Molly Ray, senior, is playing Regina George, the next biggest role in the musical. Ray’s enormous talent as a performer is evident, as Mean Girls is the first musical at Leesville that she has ever auditioned for.

“I’ve actually never been in a musical in highschool, so I’m a little nervous because I haven’t sung on stage since seventh or eighth grade,” said Ray. “Still though, I’m definitely excited to start practicing the vocals and choreography.

The first preview of the spring musical will take place on Wednesday, April 17. Make sure to come out and support Leesville’s talented performers, and don’t forget: on Wednesdays, we wear pink!
