Leesville Road Varsity baseball is making moves in the state rankings

Leesville Road Varsity baseball was ranked #4 according to the North Carolina Baseball Power Rankings with a record of 7-1.

In their most recent game on March 20, 2024, Leesville crushed Enloe at their conference home opener with a score of 10-0.

Jack Fields pitched a 5 inning game with 7 strikeouts and a shutout win.

Dylan Pasternak batted 3-3, with a home run and an RBI.

Parker Jones went 3-4 with a homerun and 3 RBI’s and Ben Fields went 2-3 with a double.

Leesville held the Eagles to a 0 run game which now raised their record to 8-1 and their 5th win in a row.

The dynamic on the team seems to have returned along with Coach Jones stepping back in.

“The team dynamic with Coach Jones back is completely different. I feel like with him back coaching, everyone’s main goal is winning again. I felt like the last 2 years it was not the goal. Everyone is more locked in at practice and in games because with Jones there are consequences for making stupid mistakes and fooling around in practice. This was not the case the previous years,” said Dylan Pasternak, senior.

Parker Jones, a senior pitcher committed to Davidson, agrees and said, “The team dynamic with Jones is much looser and we are much more focused on getting wins now. I think this season if we handle business in conference play we will be able to make a run in the playoffs.”

With the Pride’s determination and coaching staff a strong season is definitely ahead.

Here is a report of the Pride’s previous games:

Their season started by playing Millbrook at the Wildcats’ field on February 26, 2024. The Pride crushed the Wildcats 14-8.

On February 28, 2024, the Pride faced the Heritage Huskies on their field and came on top with a final score of 9-7.

On March 4, 2024, the Pride played the Heritage Huskies for a second time, and yet again, took home a win with a score of 4-3.

Parker Jones pitched a close 6-inning game and had 6 strikeouts and 3 base hits.

Nick Widener closed the game pitching and kept the Pride on top, while also batting 2-2.

On March 8, 2024, the Pride competed against the Wakefield Wolverines during a close game but ended up falling short. The final score was 0-2.

On March 11, 2024, the Pride faced Garner and played a very close game. The Pride came out on top with a score of 7-5 against the Trojans.

Justin Chambers went 2-4 with 2 doubles.

Ty Furlow, junior, came in to pitch the last inning and had 2 strikeouts.

“It’s a good feeling of course to win. It makes me and the team feel comfortable and complacent. Although our ranking is pretty good right now we try to not talk about it and focus on the game in front of us, hoping to continue to end up on top,” said Furlow.

On March 13, 2024, the Pride faced Green Hope with another close game. The final score was 4-1 with the Pride taking home the win.

Jake Fields pitched a 7-inning game with a total of 7 strikeouts, 1 earned run, and 0 walks.

Justin Chambers went 3-3 with a double and 1 RBI.

“The Green Hope game we won 4-1 against a pretty solid team. I went 3 for 3 with 2 singles, a double, and 1 RBI while contributing to 3 of the 4 runs scored. We are now 7-1, and I gotta give the credit to our coach staff with Coach Jones, Coach P, and Coach Houston for being a big part of the team’s success, and being able to prepare us before every game by giving us scouting reports about the type of hitters and pitchers we will see,” said Justin Chambers, senior.

Nolan Wyss went 3-3 with 1 RBI and Ryan Schmitz went 2-3 with 1 RBI.

On March 15, 2024, the Pride played a close game against Hamden Hall Connecticut.

Nick Widener pitched a great 7-inning game with 4 strikeouts and 0 earned runs.

Parker Jones went 2-2 with a double.

On March 18, 2024, Leesville brought home a win after traveling to Enloe with a final score of 10-1.

Parker Jones pitched 5 innings with 0 earned runs, 9 strikeouts, and 3 base hits.

CJ Carson batted 3-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs and Ben Fields went 2-3 with 3 RBIs.

“So far we have been playing freely and having fun with it. Another big reason is us as a team. The chemistry we have is unmatched and that makes it so much easier to play with each other as we can all rely upon one another to make a play when needed and help us win games,” said Justin Chambers, senior.

The Leesville Varsity baseball team’s current success has not gone unnoticed.

“The program is definitely back where it needs to be and you can see that by how our season is going so far,” said Dylan Pasternak, senior.
