The Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in Manhattan, New York.

This televised event occurs on the first Monday of May, marking the opening of the museum’s annual fashion exhibition.

Attendees must be invited to attend the Met Gala.

The tickets cost attendees $75,000 per person, meaning a ticket costs more than the typical price of a house down payment.

The event usually hosts 450 attendees.

To be invited, you must be perceived as culturally relevant in categories including fashion, film, television, sports, social media, and more.

This year, celebrities including Gigi Hadid, Vera Wang, Lana Del Ray, Jude Law, and more were in attendance.

Every year all of the high-profile celebrities in attendance wear extravagant outfits that correspond with the theme.

The theme of this year’s Met Gala was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” with its official dress code being “The Garden of Time”.

“The Garden of Time” theme was inspired by J.G Ballard’s short story of the same title, written in 1962.

Unsurprisingly, plenty of celebrities wore very floral and gardenesque outfits.

“Some celebrities, like Lana Del Ray, had cute outfits that fit the theme. Doja Cat’s outfit was crazy though,” said Rylie Stelmock, sophomore. 

The “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” themed exhibit will feature around 250 rare items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection.

These rare pieces span over 400 years of fashion, including designs from Dior, Givenchy, and more. 

The exhibit will showcase items that will not be worn again such as a Charles Frederick Worth ball gown dating back to 1877.

The Met Gala is such a mysterious event because guests must abide by the no-phone policy.

The rest of the world will never be able to fully know what goes on during the prestigious fundraiser.

Although, the Met Gala is notorious for its bathroom.

Personalities from television stars to athletes meet up in the Met bathroom to take photos and TikToks.

One of the most popular bathroom selfies was taken in 2016. The picture features celebrities such as Hailey Beiber, Lily-Rose Depp, and Lily Aldridge.

This year, Met fans have been able to watch a TikTok that Lizzo posted while in the Met Gala bathroom.

The Met Gala is such an exclusive event that normal people can only dream of being invited to. 

Although the public loves to see all of the fashion, it is important to remember that the event is a fundraiser to help support the Costume Institute.
