When brought up in conversation, media, or literature, astrology has always been a controversial topic.
Astrology is “the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies interpreted as having an influence on human affairs and the natural world;” AKA, the idea that the position of the stars and planets influences nature and people’s personality traits.
Some people believe that the determined definition is true and astrology provides definite reasoning behind certain shared traits and natural occurrences.
Others disagree entirely and argue that astrology and astrological signs are completely unrelated to one’s traits or features of the natural world.
According to a poll conducted by the LRHS Mycenaean Instagram, 37% of LRHS students are in favor of astrology vs 63% of LRHS students who are against it.
Aiden Fiander, junior, said, “I mean I don’t know a lot about astrology but like, people have different life experiences… there’s no way the stars have any real impact on like, who we are.”
The two extremes often debate on the scientific basis of astrology and whether or not it really does have any influence on the universe; However, there are also the people who could be swayed either way.
“I just think it’s kinda fun you know? Like maybe it doesn’t have any real grounding and maybe it does, but like, it’s fun to look up your sign and find bits of pieces of your personality,” said Nyah Von Haam, senior.
In my opinion, I see astrology similarly to Von Haam. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and ideologies, but there’s no harm in having fun with your horoscope or star sign description.
Use the link in the caption to figure out your star sign. After reading your horoscope, has your opinion on astrology changed or has it stayed the same?
Regardless of your opinion on astrology, it’s important to be respectful of others and what they believe in.
