This year, The Mycenaean’s website underwent major changes. Newly updated, the website now displays a new theme, formatting, and About Us page.

When it came to updating the website, Abby Crawford, Website Editor, knew the first matter of business would be changing the theme.

“Well first of all [the website] was just, like, abrasive… the colors were really harsh so I wanted to change that with the theme,” said Crawford.

Last year, the website featured a crisp white background with bright green lettering. While maintaining LRHS school spirit, the contrast in the two colors was abrasive.

To fix this issue, Crawford replaced the white background and green lettering with a cream background and bluish-gray lettering.

As a baseline, the website is supposed to switch themes every two years, so this change was expected. However, Crawford took renovating the website a step further.

Crawford said, “The formatting was really clunky, and [the website] had this weird side bar/column situation on it. It also didn’t have a spot for our social media… I mean there was a little spot on the bottom with links, but you could barely see it.”

Once the theme was sorted out, Crawford made quick work of discarding the awkward sidebar. In it’s place, Crawford created space to add social media content to the front page.

In years prior, the website had separate tabs or sections dedicated to Mycenaean video content but it was never featured as a main attraction.

Now, the website’s front page features videos alongside articles, drawing users in and creating new opportunities for video exposure.

The final major change to the website was reformatting the About Us page.

“It had these weird circle pictures of [the newspaper staff] and overall I just didn’t love the way it was set up… I wanted the pictures to be portrait and overall, I just wanted [the page] to look cleaner,” said Crawford.

Having implemented these changes and renovations, the Mycenaean website is more user-friendly, aesthetically pleasing, and efficient.Make sure to stay up-to-date on LRHS events and community by visiting The Mycenaean website at https://www.themycenaean.org/
