Scott Sinor is a CTE teacher at Leesville Road High School. He loves interacting with and helping all of his students the best he can.
Sinor graduated from NC State with a degree in technological education. He teaches Drafting 1, Drafting 2 Architecture, Drafting 2 Engineering, Technology Engineering and Design, and Technological Design.
Drafting teaches students how to design drawings for project plans and make floor plans. Technology engineering and design teaches how to create 3D models and plans to later build. It also guides students through hands-on tasks like building a bridge to withstand 20 pounds of force or a car that can move with the help of a mousetrap.
Sinor has been teaching for 10 years total but this year is his seventh at Leesville. “What inspired me to get back into teaching after leaving for 20 years was working with my daughter on her science projects. I missed doing hands-on things and working with the kids,” said Sinor.
Mr. Sinor is a diligent teacher who cares deeply for students even after they have taken his class. He makes sure that all of his students are picking up the content and information well. When doing class work he models one or two of the tasks then comes around to help with any questions. Sinor gets students to ask questions and raise their hands to keep them involved.
Ian Sharp, sophomore and first-time student of Sinor, said via text, “The most valuable lesson Mr. Sinor has taught me so far is to slow down and relax to control and focus on the quality of my work … He has encouraged me to join the ACE (Architecture, Construction, and Engineering) Mentor Program that he is an advisor for.”
The ACE Mentor Program is an opportunity for students to work with professionals and experts to learn skills and find career options in the industrial world.
Halle Gibson, junior, has been in three of Mr. Sinor’s classes. “I recommend his class to anyone who is interested in anything like engineering or architecture because he teaches you how to use most of the platforms you would use in the real world,” said Gibson.
Students interested in working in an engineering field should consider registering for one of Mr. Sinor’s classes.
