Leesville Wrestling tryouts begin October 30.
Coach Wyss, women’s wrestling coach, said, “I’m looking for hard working and dedicated individuals. This sport requires a lot of dedication, sacrifice, and discipline.”
2024 is only the second year that Leesville has had a women’s wrestling team. There were just three people on the team last year, so it is vital for everyone to take the chance to try out.
It’s an embracing family and joining the team is open for anyone.
Devin Hardy, junior and on the team last year, said, “There’s no experience required. We’ll teach you everything you need to know, and you get to make a bunch of strong friendships with girls who are excited about the same thing you are.”
If you’re still nervous or intimidated, Ragine Griffin, junior, who went to the interest meeting, was too. However, after meeting the coach and other girls, her mind was changed.
“Everyone was welcoming, and I’m not sure if it was because I felt very comfortable in the room or because I wanted to help expand the team, but I’m committed to give it a shot,” said Griffin, over text.
“Try your best and don’t get discouraged. Everyone has to start somewhere and not everyone will pick up the sport quickly, but success will come if you put in the work,” said Wyss.
If you’re looking for a way to support the school and a new and exciting sport with a great community, you should be a part of the women’s wrestling team.
