Working out is hard, that’s a fact. Let me tell you why you should get started, or if you already are, keep pushing forward and stay motivated.
There are a lot of reasons why people start working out — weight loss, muscle gain, strength training, etc. The first thing you can do to keep yourself motivated is to remember that reason.
“I wanted to look better and have a positive effect on my mental health,” said Rashad Burton, senior. “I think about my problems and troubles and knowing that I can improve myself, I try my best to stay in there.”
For people just starting out, there are many ways to work out — some key points being cardio and weight training. Both can be extremely beneficial.
Getting started does not have to be super intense. Even just a 15-20 minute walk once a day starting out would do wonders for your health.
“There’s pain involved, but truly there is no downside to wanting to better yourself,” said Burton. Physical pain, because you will be sore in the days following.
Health is another big factor to start working out. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Regular physical activity can help you fall asleep faster, get better sleep and deepen your sleep.” Smart, controlled training can also be good for joint health. “Regular exercise, especially activities like yoga, tai chi and stretching, can improve joint flexibility. Doing these activities regularly can increase the range of motion in your joints, relieving pain and stiffness” (Arthritis Foundation).
More than that, there is no better feeling than finishing a good workout.
Burton said, “It makes me feel accomplished once I get a good workout in.”
Remember that you have to stay motivated, and everyone starts working out for a reason, remember your reason and keep pushing yourself and you will see results, it just might take some time.
