The LRHS Varsity football regular season ended two weeks ago, November 1st. The team finished with a 9-1 record, going almost undefeated the whole season.
The team started the season strong, winning all 5 non-conference games. They continued their streak into conference play, winning four consecutive games before losing to Cardinal Gibbons in their last game.
“I think [the season] went overall good because we had a good record, and I think we worked really hard,” said Christian Shaw, senior. Shaw is one of the captains and plays middle linebacker for the team.
Several players said that the highlight of their season was the team’s win against Wake Forest. The Pride had lost to Wake Forest for the past two years, but they turned it around with a 40-7 win in the pre-season.
“Definitely being 9-1, we beat Wake Forest,” said Deiondre Goldston, senior. Goldston is another one of the captains and a quarterback for the team.
Despite the glowing pre-season and beginning of their conference play, the Pride suffered an uncharacteristic loss to Cardinal Gibbons on Senior Night. Gibbons went on to win the Cap 6 Conference, while Leesville came in second.
There are still things the team needs to work on before playoffs and next year’s season. “Definitely our focus near the end of practices; we usually got a little off track,” said Hudson Creismore, sophomore and offensive guard.
Coming off of a fairly good season, the Pride Varsity football team headed into playoffs this past Friday, November 15. They hope to carry their success from the regular season into the playoffs and go all the way to the championship.
