Many students through the beginning of the year thought advisory was a waste of time, while now, students have started to form small clicks in advisory, and enjoy it a bit more.
Students have started to chat, play cards, or futz around on their phones with people they’ve met in advisory.
Although the purpose of advisory was for students to be working towards set goals and keeping track of grades, that has taken a bit of a backburner for many.
“I like advisory better now because of the games we play and not having to fill out paperwork like at the start of the year,” said Aidan Cavanagh, senior.
Some students also viewed advisory as taking time away from other classes that could have been allocated elsewhere.
Chris Azamar, senior, said, “It was taking time out of our 1st period.” Not only first period but each class lost a few minutes in order to be able to fit advisory in on Wednesdays.
“Advisory did not serve exactly any purpose until we got to play games and have fun,” said Cavanagh.
There have also been PTA sponsored events in advisory, like the ice cream party for seniors.
“I’ve had a senior lunch together with them where seniors got a bowl of ice cream,” said Azamar, “I still feel neutral about it but I don’t mind it.”
Students who have been at Leesville for 3 or 4 years and used to the schedule of the day have taken some time to adapt, but advisory has definitely improved from the beginning of the year.
