The 82nd annual Golden Globes hosted by Nikki Glaser

This past Sunday, on January 5, 2025, the Beverly HIlton Hotel hosted the annual Golden Globe Awards. The Golden Globes are awards given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) to recognize achievements in film and television. The 2025 Golden Globes drew 9.3 million viewers, a slight decrease from last year’s show. However, this year it seems there is more talk about the host rather than the awards themselves.

Nikki Glaser, an American stand-up comedian, amongst other things, was selected to host the 82nd Golden Globes. This made her the first woman to ever host the show solo. She has appeared on many comedy specials, reality shows and even has her own stand-up specials on Netflix and Comedy Central. Nikki is known for her quick, sharp and witty humor, allowing her to engage with her audience well.

“She brings refreshing honesty to her jokes without going too far. She can make even the most awkward or boring topics entertaining and funny. I think she is the best host the Golden Globes have had in a while,” said Lucia Namey, sophomore, via text.

One of the jokes that stood out from the show was made between Nikki and with no surprise: Adam Sandler. The viral joke was part of her opening monologue, where she said, “Actually, your name sounds like something Adam Sandler would say. Chaloomayy…” she joked, mimicking Sandler’s iconic voice. “A-Timothée, A-Chalamet.” Glaser then got Sandler himself to join in on the fun—”Can I get a Chalamet?”—to which he 100% returned that energy.

Overall, most people think that Nikki “understood the assignment”. Her edgy humor and bold energy that she brought to the show was loved by many. The celebrities were laughing the whole time and there weren’t any “misfires’, which has been an issue in recent years with previous hosts and their jokes.
