The students of Leesvilles favorite christmas movies

One part about the holiday season that many people look forward to year after year is sitting down to watch one, if not more, of their favorite Christmas movies. Whether it be a treasured classic, or new to the spotlight, everyone has that one film that they can’t get enough of.

“[My favorite Christmas movie is] Home Alone. It’s a classic, there’s nothing wrong with it,” said Michael Ogbuowelu, sophomore. The main story of Home Alone follows eight year old Kevin McCallister who’s the youngest of five children. After constantly being teased and excluded by his family members, Kevin wishes his whole family would just disappear. When he wakes up one morning, he discovers that his entire family left for Christmas vacation without him! It’s all fun and games until two robbers named Harry and Marv (known as The Wet Bandits) try to break into his house and Kevin has to get quite creative for the next time they try to strike his house. “I don’t really watch any other Christmas movies,” said Obguowelu. Obguowelu grew up watching this iconic film. Ogbuowelu would rate the film 5/5 stars.

“My favorite Christmas movie is The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is a little controversial, I think it is a Christmas movie however. I think it’s a fun way to show Christmas spirit without being super jolly. But I think it’s a fun mix between Halloween and Christmas,” said Agust Love, junior. The Nightmare Before Christmas tells the story of Jack Skellington who is the “Pumpkin King” of Halloween Town. One evening when preparing for Halloween night, Jack accidentally stumbles into Christmas Land and gets the idea that he is going to steal Christmas. With the help of all the other citizens in Halloween Town, Jack successfully steals Christmas, along with kidnapping Santa Clause himself! “[The Nightmare Before Christmas] adds something a little different [to the season]. Polar Express is really nice; it’s happy and jolly and I think The Nightmare Before Christmas… it’s inclusive. And the songs are really amazing,” said Love. Love watches this film every Christmas with her mom. Love would rate the film 5/5 stars.

“[My favorite Christmas movie is] A Christmas Story… the scene where he gets his tongue stuck on the pole, I find that one really funny,” said Grady Rogers, sophomore. A Christmas Story follows young Ralphie Parker who wants nothing more for Christmas than a “Red Rider Air Rifle”. He gets into some trouble every now and then including running from a bully, breaking his glasses, and the iconic scene where one of his classmates gets his tongue stuck on a frozen pole. “I really like the vibe of [the movie] and it’s really funny,” said Rodgers. Rodgers grew up watching A Christmas Story with his family every year. Rodgers would rate the film 4.5/5 stars.

“[My favorite Christmas movie] is Christmas Vacation because I just think it’s so funny, it’s the funniest movie,” said Ellie Crosby, sophomore. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is the story of the Griswold family getting ready to host their large family at their house for Christmas. The father, Clark Griswold, goes out all while decorating the exterior of the entire house with Christmas lights, giant inflatables, and more. Once the rest of the family arrives at the Griswold house is when the chaos begins to ensue. “[Watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation], that’s how I end the Christmas season. We watch it every year on Christmas Eve… it was my Grandma’s favorite movie” said Crosby. Crosby says her favorite scene in the film is when the family is all eating the Christmas dinner together at the end of the film. Crosby would rate the film 4/5 stars.Christmas movies have become a staple in many households during the holiday season, especially as Christmas Day gets closer and closer. Lots of people enjoy watching their favorite Christmas movies every year with family and friends. Aside from the ones listed, other Leesville students favorite Christmas movies include Elf, Die Hard (despite the controversy some people do consider this a Christmas film), A Christmas Carol, and The Polar Express.
