This past Friday, January 2, 2025, Braxton Berrios’s jersey was retired during the JV and Varsity basketball games in the LRHS Gymnasium.
While this event brought lots of attention to Leesville, more attention surrounded the event because of his girlfriend, Alix Earle, and her attendance at the game.
“I was really excited because I follow her on social media, and I was like, oh my goodness. I love her, I love watching her ‘Get Ready With Me’s’, so I was excited,” said Alyssa DeBerry.
Earle rose to fame as a lifestyle and beauty influencer in 2020, through her “Get Ready With Me” videos on both Instagram and Facebook.
“All the other cheer girls were going crazy, and I had heard about Braxton Berrios, so I knew who he was, but I did not know Alix Earle,” said Garrett Scofield, junior.
Earle graduated from the University of Miami (the same university Berrios attended) in 2023 with a degree in marketing. She has continued to post on social media, growing so popular that she has even dubbed the term ‘The Alix Earle effect’.
“It’s like the way she does stuff, and people follow along with what she wears, and what she uses,” said Ashley Stanziale, junior. The Alix Earle effect has been used to describe the way products sell out or go viral after Earle uses them on social media.
This popularity in items has helped her to launch her own products, like the Alix jeans, by the company Frame, which she was seen wearing to Berrios’s Leesville jersey retirement, and Chow, a local restaurant located off of Creedmoor Road, here in Raleigh.
