While some students have strong beliefs and knowledge regarding politics, where are they getting these opinions or information from?
A majority of students gain their political beliefs based on the opinions of their family members or the community around them. Political socialization plays a large role in how politically aware a student can be. “Parents play a primary role in the political socialization of their children.”
A basic understanding of democracy and how the government works is not enough to make Americans politically aware.
Some of these current disagreements include: tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China, a funding freeze on science research, and most predominantly — for the sake of this article — the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants.

Based on the data, there are many misconceptions regarding some of the political issues currently going on. Many “facts” people find are from what they see on social media but, as made clear in different instances, social media isn’t always reliable.
