Join the Philosophy Club here at Leesville

Philosophy club has just started up at Leesville, inviting students to have deep discussions on the meaning of life– or lack thereof. Members can also explore their various beliefs and how they can be applied to everyday life.

Fliers went up around November, and the interest meeting took place in early January.

Sage Acheson, club president, said, “I’ve been wanting to start philosophy club for a while now just because I really like philosophy. I also know how important it is for people to understand who they are and where other people are coming from and I thought this club would really help with that.”

An important goal for the club leaders, Acheson and Bella Von Der Heide, club vice president, is to create a safe space for people to voice their opinions without fear of being ridiculed.

The first official meeting was on February 3. The club discussed the five main schools of philosophical thought: Stoicism, Existentialism, Nihilism, Utilitarianism, and Absurdism, and how they can easily be applied to real-life situations teenagers experience.

Future topics include the romanticization of Luigi Mangione, vigilante justice, and understanding those with completely different beliefs.

The next meeting will be on March 10 after school in room 115.
