The LRHS Pride Productions is a club organized to help develop an outstanding Drama Program at Leesville Road High School. It is coming out with a musical “Freaky Friday”, which they will be presenting on March 5-8 in the school auditorium.
The musical is about a mother and daughter swapping bodies for a day, which makes them appreciate and understand each other. The main theme of the play is family relationships.
“I hope [the audience] take away that everybody [should] respect their parents because you never know how hard they work for you until you have to be in that position,” said Hannah Holder, junior and actor in the musical.
The Pride Productions club has been working hard to produce the musical, their biggest struggle being lack of time.
“We have a very short time to prepare, but we are going to work extra hard,” said Lyla Carpetto, junior and makeup technician.
Going behind the scenes, the makeup artist elaborated about her work.
“We take influences from how the characters act in the script… If they’re a bright, outgoing person, we give them bright makeup,” said Carpeto.
Based on this, the audience can foresee the main character being more rebellious and closed.
“We’re going for an emo-ish type of look for our main character, kind of grungy, like ‘90’s,” said Carpetto.
Going back to the actors, as in every field, it’s harder to act in a musical than it seems.
“[Most people don’t realize] that it can definitely be harder versus acting. If you don’t dance on a regular basis, it’s harder to remember the moves. You have to “lock in” and still be in character,” said Holder.
The “Freaky Friday” musical is only a month away. The Pride Productions crew would definitely appreciate the Leesville community’s support by attending their show. The tickets will be available on GoFan closer to the date of the musical.
