On Friday, January 31, 2025, the Marine Ecology Club had its first meeting. Sisters, Lily and Evie Morgan lead the club and are eager to share their knowledge and passion for marine ecology with others.
Mr. Fisher’s marine ecology class inspired the sisters, who then put a plan together to start this club. “I started the club because marine ecology and biology are things that I’m passionate about and something that I want to do in the future as my career. And I knew we didn’t have a club for it in the school so I wanted to make a place for other people who are also passionate about it,” said Lily Morgan, sophomore.
The first meeting was a huge success. People interested in learning more about marine ecology filled the room. Although it was just an interest meeting, many people were excited to hear what the club would be doing in the future as well as learning about open leadership positions.
Morgan has planned for community service projects, movies, and potentially a field trip. “I felt pretty good, I still don’t know a lot, but I think it will be a good opportunity to get involved with Leesville,” said Darby Moreschi, sophomore.
The club wants to inform the students of Leesville about marine ecology without it feeling like a lesson, which is why they’re incorporating very hands-on elements that you wouldn’t see in a class setting.
“The real goal of the club is to spread awareness about global warming and how it has affected our oceans and just everything ecologically in the marine area. My goal is to just grow as a club, raise more awareness about climate change and global warming, and just be able to help in some way about this stuff,” said Morgan.
This club aims to raise awareness among our community and school and inform teachers and students about this topic. On the last Friday of every month, Mr. Fisher will hold a Marine Ecology meeting for new and returning students.
