Rapper Ian (full name Ian O’Neil Smith) will perform in Raleigh for the first time. He will host his concert at the Lincoln Theatre Venue on February 19.
About Ian
The famous rapper became popular last year, after his song “Figure It Out” went viral on the short-format video social media platform Tik Tok. Following the success of this single he signed a joint record deal with BuVision and Columbia Records.
Ian’s success was not overnight, though. The rapper began his music career in 2018, releasing his first singles on the music streaming service SoundCloud under the alias Suburbancerberus.
Some people online have said that the biggest boost in his popularity was his unconventional image: a suburban white guy rapping with a distinct style, taking huge influence from Atlanta’s rappers like Gucci Mane or Future.
Accomplishments
Although the rapper started seeing major success only last year, his music has spread like a virus. His debut mixtape Valedictorian peaked at the 54th place on the US Billboard 200. On the same chart, his first debut studio album, Goodbye Horses, peaked at the 86th spot.
On July 26, 2024, Ian also released the single “Hate Me” with a well-established rapper Lil Yachty, most known for tracks like “Broccoli,” “iSpy,” “Poland.”
Tour does a stop in Raleigh
The artist is mostly popular among teens and young adults, hence a lot of Leesville students will be attending his show.
“I think it’s going to be pretty fire,” said Eason Vaughn, junior.
Rap concerts usually include a crowd “moshing,” which includes people jumping up and down and slamming into each other.
“I feel like there’s going to be a “mosh pit.” It should be really fun, but just a little scary, because people can get really hyped up,” said Nayriella Jouve, junior.
Being inside of a “mosh pit” can be really fun, but can also cause a lot of harm. Be cautious and know the risks before going into one.
Many teens and young adults are going to be attending the show. The tickets can be found on the lincolntheatre.com website.
