What to expect at the upcoming Leesville softball tryouts

Leesville Softball tryouts for the upcoming spring season are coming up on February 12, 13 and 14 at 4:30pm on the softball field.

Before tryouts happen, everyone planning to tryout needs to make sure their Dragonfly is complete before the deadline, February 3. If athletes have any questions regarding Dragonfly, contact Ms. Ford at eford3@wcpss.net.

The softball coaches this year have decided to add a JV team along with the Varsity team. This change will allow more people to be a part of Leesville softball and have more of an ability to get playing time.

Eryn Andruchuwitz, sophomore, said, “I think the new JV team is a great idea. It allows more people to play and develop that might not get a chance to if they were on varsity.”

All people interested in softball are encouraged to try out. To effectively prepare for tryouts, athletes should be honing in their skills and constantly getting in as many reps as they can. Tryouts can be nerve-wracking, but previous players have advice.

“You are gonna get frustrated with yourself and make mistakes, but instead of feeling defeated, you can learn from those mistakes to become better. Always be coachable, try to do your best, and get in the practice and reps and you will be successful,” said Brianna Guilliams, junior.

Becoming a part of the Leesville softball team has been a great experience for many returning players.

Savannah Oberdorf, senior, said, “I love the school softball team because I have met some of my favorite people on the team who I have become really close with. We get to play and compete together… it’s just a really fun experience.”
