Class Registration Begins for the 2025-26 school year

Course registration is now open for the 2025-2026 school year. Students are presented with a choice between various electives and course levels.

Leesville Students were given a course registration packet in their advisory on February 12 that outlined all of the classes students have to choose from. On February 24, students began to meet with their counselors to enter their course selections.

Students are expected to submit their selections after meeting with their counselor but class registration remains open until the middle of March.

Austin Harrington, freshman, said, “There are a bunch of different types of classes that people can take so there is something for everyone.”

Leesville offers over 75 different electives offered at academic, honors, or AP levels.

Each level of a class — academic, honors, or AP — comes with a different amount of GPA points. If a student gets an A in an academic course, 4.0 points will be added to their GPA. 4.5 points are awarded for an A in an honors course, and 5.0 points for an A in an AP course.

GPA, or the grade point average, is very important to students aiming for a top-tier college.

Austin Harrington, freshman, said, “Next year I want to take AP Gov instead of Civic Literacy because I want to get my GPA high. I want to go to NC State or something.”

Some students take the level of a course into strong consideration when picking their classes. Many even avoid certain classes because they are not offered at a “high enough” level.

Lily Morgan, sophomore, said, “I wasn’t going to take [Foods & Nutrition 1] because that one wasn’t honors.”

Picking new classes can be a stressful experience for students. It makes students feel like they need a plan for their future.

Harrington said, “I pick my electives off of what I want my job to be.”

But if students don’t know what they want to do after they graduate, picking new classes can bring a sense of rush to their lives.

Some classes require an application process. Newspaper, Yearbook, Early Childhood Education, CTE Internship, CTE Advanced Study, Advanced Dance, Theater and Arts programs all require an application or audition.

If you are interested in any of these classes, please contact the course teacher or advisor to find out the application requirements.

As course registration begins, students have the opportunity to look forward to new beginnings, new classes, and more opportunities to branch out.

Contacting counselors, upperclassmen, or teachers is a great way to seek advice before signing up for classes.
